traffic lights

Alas. Sometimes, I really wish I could slap the person who timed traffic lights. As Garfield would say, “They should be drug out into the street and shot.” Or maybe in light of this comic, forced to sit and wait at the very intersection they designed.

Safari Comes to Windows

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007 @ 12:08pm

Apple launches a beta version of Safari for windows during it’s WWDC conference. While the release version is quite buggy at the moment, I welcome the coming of Safari to the Windows platform. This is a great opportunity for web developers, as well as providing more choices for web browsers on Windows.

If you’re interested in downloading the latest release, be sure to visit Apple’s website.

Teen Scares Burgular with Samurai Sword

Further proof that swords are cool. In all seriousness though, it’s kind of sad that the thief that was captured was released on bond the next morning. Here are two kids that I’m sure are probably frightened to death, and one was willing to risk his life to protect his sister. Kudos to Damian and his bravery.

A little idea that might be interesting to try later on. Could make some Tetris Jello, or Ice Cubes…

Modern Web Design

Breakdown of Modern Web Design

I believe the above pie chart accurate describes the process of modern web design. The actual design process takes very little time it seems when compared to debugging and getting the blasted thing to work in Internet Explorer.

Curse you Bill Gates and your excuse of a browser that stains the very name of the browsers! May Firefox/Opera/Safari one day over take your reign of terror and put you in your place where you belong. One day my friends, one day…

One of my projects this semester was working on artificial intelligence project called, “A Dynamic Approach to Searching Music”. I’ve posted the source code, along with the executable jar file on my programming projects page, so if you’re interested you should take a look.

Monitors

Friday, May 11th, 2007 @ 12:49pm

This is mostly for my reference (for a later date), but I thought I would put it here as well.

So I’m in the market for a new monitor… eventually (pending graduation, and then a job… not necessarily in that exact order). I’ve been using a 17″ Samsung SyncMaster 955DF CRT for say… about 6 years now. It’s been a nice monitor, but it’s heavy and starting to show it’s age.

Anyway, considering how good my Samsung monitor has been to me, I’m currently looking at what’s offered. And by far, the SyncMaster 226BW has caught my eye. It’s a 22″ widescreen LCD, with a sweet 2ms response time for a cool $300 price. And it’s gotten some pretty decent user reviews as well. The only 2 real “gripes” about the product is that the stand is not height adjustable, which really isn’t a big concern to me. The other issue seems to be is that there are three different manufactures of this monitor, there’s the A panel (produced by AOU), S panel (produced by Samsung), and the C panel (produced by CMO Chi Mei Electronics). Apparently there’s been a few issues with the other manufacturers besides Samsung, but I haven’t had a chance to really look and see what they actually look like in-store. Whenever I eventually pick up this monitor, I’ll post my impressions on what I think.

23 Indeed

Sunday, May 6th, 2007 @ 12:29pm

So here I am, at the ripe ol’ age of 23. Happy Birthday to me indeed. Somehow, I’ve managed to survive 23 years thus far, and I really have no idea what’s next. Where will I work? Will I get married? What am I going to do? At this point, I have no idea. So many questions remain out there unanswered, and it remains to see if those answers will be present at the time I turn 24 next year…
