Holiday Weekend

Monday, April 17th, 2006 @ 11:07am

Happy Easter! Ahh… it’s so nice to have a holiday weekend. Even though I probably still have a lot of stuff to do, it’s just nice to have a break.

Friday, I was out of classes all day. One of my professors decided to cancel class, because we had all participated in a trip down to Perry County on Thursday, and another professor decided to cancel as well since most of us wouldn’t be there anyway. But, it ended up I had to go back up to Samford anyway since I had left my piano books at school… go figure! So I finished the day out by teaching my students, then going over to visit a friend’s house for a couple of hours.

Satuday, I ran a few errands and stuff but mostly just stayed around the apartment until mid-afternoon. Went out to dinner for a little while, and came back.

Sunday, of course I went to church for our Easter service. It was pretty good! After church, went home for lunch where my dad cooked steaks, with mashed potatoes and gravy. I miss his steaks being up here at the apartment and at school. At least I get to get a taste of them every now and then. After lunch, Clint and I contemplated about doing something that afternoon, but really couldn’t decide on anything. So we just drove around for a little while, and crashed in on Timothy at his apartment then went to visit the Vulcan. Not too long after that, we went back to my apartment and pretty much goofed off for the rest of the night. And so, I guess we have to decide on something to do again today as I procrastinate on projects that are due at the end of the year, don’t you just love it how that happens? I think I should probably go wake him up first though, considering it’s after 10am already…

Movin’ On Up

Saturday, April 1st, 2006 @ 12:34am

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, but I’ve been a little busy with things. I’ve been trying to get things back in order since Spring Break and adjust being back in school. It’s amazing what one week away will do to you!

So balancing projects, school, and play. It’s a complicated process! We have basically two different types of projects due for Computer Science. In my database class, we got the awesome oppertunity to visit some schools in Perry County and in sync with the database class here at Samford we’re working on designing a database that will help suit their needs. It’s a little daunting right now to try to keep track of everything that they want to keep track of, and a little crazy. But I’m sure everything will work out fine once we go visit them again to present them a design. The other big project that is due at the end of the semester is creating a interpreter for Tiny Basic which is based off of the programming language BASIC. But we have to create an interpreter in Java that will take in a valid Tiny Basic program. It’s a little difficult at the moment, and I have a feeling our whole group (myself included) is going to probably put this off until close until the end of the semester.

Oh yeah, play. Almost forgot about that. I’ve been recently playing Genso Suikoden V. This roughly translates into English, something like “Water Margin”, but of course that doesn’t make any sense. The story is roughly based off of a Chinese Novel with the idea of 108 Stars of Destiny. Basicly 108 different people band together as heros to overcome some sort of evil. Anyway, I’ve been really enjoying it and the game has a feel much like the original 2 Suikodens which is a plus considering that IV had taken a little rabbit trail from the series. But there’s neat little mini-games within the game that are always entertaining. There’s even RTS (real time strategy) type battles that are very entertaining to play! If you have a PS2 and have played any of the previous Suikodens, I would recommend picking a copy up (this means you Jered! ;)

I also have some other exciting things going on right now, but I’m not really in the position to talk about them yet. Hopefully when things become a bit more clear I’ll be able to release more information. Until then, jya mata!

Important Event

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006 @ 11:00am

Cake for RickSo we had Rick’s birthday party this past Monday, and I hope he enjoyed everything. Jeremy had ordered an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen, which he was trying to get them to put Jeff Gordon on the front since Rick likes Nascar, and consequently likes Jeff Gordon as well. However, apparently due to licensing issues they couldn’t actually put the number 24 on the car, but for some strange reason they could still make it look like Jeff Gordon’s car and even put Dupont on the front… like you couldn’t figure out what it was anyway. But here’s to you Rick, I hope you had a happy 19th birthday, enjoy your Seinfield!

So today half of my classes got cancelled as well. So I only had Japanese Class from 6-8 today so I got a lot of time to catch up on a lot of projects I missed out from the past two weeks. I also got my hair cut as well, although I’m not sure what to think of it at the moment. It’s really a lot shorter than I normally have it and it just doesn’t look like me at all. But I suppose it’ll grow out again with time.

One Man Band

Sunday, February 19th, 2006 @ 12:53am

So, after last Thursday’s small disaster with the Sax, I decided to play my cornet today at the basketball game, considering that the good sax was in the shop and I’ve split all my reeds. I was shocked at how many people actually commented on me playing cornet. At least half of the people in the band took a second look, and asked me what instrument I was going to play next. I might take up Brett on his offer and pick up the tuba just to see what people say.

But in either case, I hope the sax comes back from the shop pretty soon. We play at a double-header sometime next week, and if the men or women’s team win then we’ll go to Nashville for the NCAA tourney. I certainly don’t want to still be playing trumpet at that point, and will be more than happy to be playing sax again.

But after the game Jeremy and I ran around for a bit and did a few errands. I ran by the Best Buy in Hoover, and that one didn’t have the controller I was looking for either. What’s a guy got to do to get the things he needs?

Snow Day

Monday, February 13th, 2006 @ 12:00am

I must admit, the title is somewhat misleading considering I didn’t actually see any snow but we stood a pretty good chance of actually getting snow today, with as cold as the weather was.

Went home for a little while today and got my taxes filed early for once, along with completing the last FASFA I should have to ever do for myself. After that, I came home and watched some of the olympics. Watching the snowboarding halfpipe reminded me how much I’ve missed snowboarding this year. My family usually goes out to Snow Shoe, WV every year, although it was really a tough year for finances this year so we couldn’t really afford to go. Although, I might consider it for spring break if my finances are good, the weather is good, and I can find a decent spring break deal.

Winter Finally Arrives

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006 @ 10:32am

Well, it’s that time of year again. Winter has finally come and made it’s impact in Alabama, and it’s only February. This week highs will be in the low 40s with lows anywhere from low 20s to even in the teens possible. Maybe we’ll actually see snow sometime soon, a phenomenon I haven’t seen happen here in Alabama for quite a while now.

Yesterday, there was apparently a fire in Russel (the computer science building) and no, it wasn’t a drill. Someone happened to blow up their lunch in the microwave, or something along those lines. It made me late to class, considering that my books were on the inside, I was on the outside, and my class was halfway across campus.

In Other News…

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006 @ 12:28am

School starts today.

But in other news, I finally updated my projects page with various projects I have done as of recently. Let me know what you think.

Also, some of you have mentioned to me about having to register to make comments. Sorry about that, but I’ll look into that and see if I can get it to change or not and get back to you on that.

War, what is it good for?

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006 @ 12:17pm

So my brother and I played paintball yesterday with his church, and today I might be regretting that. I’m slightly sore in the legs and have a few welts, but I suppose it’s okay, I had fun at any rate. I also got to see Gabe Smith, a good friend of mine a few years ago from Teenpact, and gladly sent a few paintballs his way, although I payed for it later of course. ;)

Today is also the unofficial start of school for me. Band camp starts today, then tomorrow I go down to Perry County with one of my computer science professors to help with their computer situation. Tuesday is band camp again, then finally Wednesday is the official start of school. But in any case, I should have a few interesting “band camp” stories to tell if you’re willing to hang around for a few days.

Christmas Time Is Here…

Monday, December 19th, 2005 @ 8:33pm

Well school is over, thankfully. This past semester was a pretty stressful semester, but I survived! I didn’t do as well as I thought I did but I made it out with a B+ average. I also made it out of Discrete Structures with a B-, so I’m pretty happy with that.

But at least Christmas break is here and I can enjoy some time off, and just relax! I was hoping to play some Growlanser over the break, but apparently Timothy’s PS2 is giving Disc Read Errors so I’ll have to wait a while until I can actually play it.

Jury Time

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005 @ 11:10am

Well, it’s that time of year again. No, not finals but rather piano juries. Every music person is always stressed out this week trying to cram everything into the last moment. Thankfully, I have everything memorized finally but I’m still a little bit worried about it. I have yet to get an A in piano, with my best grade being an A- so I really would enjoy finally getting an A in piano, if anything it wouldn’t hurt my GPA either.

Concerto Aria is also this week as well. There’s 9 pianists in the peliminaries and only 6 get to go to the finals. I think I stand a pretty good chance of getting into the finals, but there’s some pretty stiff competition. I would love to win the competition, but will still be very pleased even if I only make it to the finals, I just hope I can get a little more than that.
