In All Randomness…

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006 @ 1:00am

Finally got to see a concert inside our new recital hall with the Samford Orchestra playing tonight. The acoustics of the place were really quite amazing. The softest softs could be heard very clearly, and the orchestra just had an overall great performance. I’ll be looking forward to our Christmas concert there with the Wind Ensemble in December.

I’m ready for fall break however. I don’t really have that many plans, other than my brother is coming into town. So we’ll do something. I’m just looking forward to having a little break even if it’s doing absolutely nothing.

I’ve also been considering what I want to do after I graduate as well… although I haven’t really decided. I’m pretty sure I want to stay here in Birmingham. It would be awesome if I could still live at the apartment that I’m currently living in now… I just need to find a good job to go along with it!

It’s Finished!

Monday, October 9th, 2006 @ 12:05pm

Woohoo! It’s about time. I’ve finally finished my Donaldson programming project (which I’ll probably post to here eventially). I can finally get a full nights sleep for once…

Not Enough Time in the Day

Saturday, October 7th, 2006 @ 1:56pm

Augh. I just want to scream. I’m still working on the same project for Current Topics, although I’m actually finally nearing completion. I’m so close to finishing that it’s painful. I’ve literally worked on this thing all day with help from both Dr. Toone and Dr. Donaldson. I’ll just be glad to finally get this thing behind me and move on…

And to top it all off I’ve been fighting really horrible allergies for the past month or so and nothing I take really seems to help. The last time I went to the doctor, he gave me some sort of shot which made me feel great for a couple of days until it wore off. I think I just might go again if it doesn’t improve within the next week or two…

Late Night Rant

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006 @ 1:32am

I’m really frustrated right now. Argh. I’ve been working on this stupid project for current topics for quite a while and I feel like I’m making no progress… I’ve pretty much worked on it all day Saturday, Sunday, and today at least whenever I’ve had free time. I really am no where close to being finished and it’s due tomorrow. I’m just extremely angry and I don’t know what to do about it.

I’m thinking it may just be worth it to turn this thing in for partial credit rather than try and finish it now… It’s already 18 pages long of text so if that’s not worth something… then I don’t know what is!

Senioritis!

Sunday, October 1st, 2006 @ 10:06am

So I went bowling this past weekend (twice), once with Dana on Friday and once by myself on Saturday. I did pretty decently on Friday bowling an average of 130~140 or so, which is pretty normal for me. But it would figure on Saturday, when I was by myself that I bowled the best game I’ve ever bowled. For years, I’d been trying to break a score of 200, and I finally did it on my second game by hitting 211.

Anyway, I guess not too much exciting has really been going on. I finally got my car back, so I’m pretty happy about that. Although it’s making some strange noises now here and there so I’m not quite sure what to do about that.

I feel like I’m starting to have senioritis in a sense. To think that this is my last year of school kind of makes me sad. At times, school can really be frustrating, with all the homework, projects, and deadlines, yet I still really enjoy it. To think that I’m in my last year in college before I’m really out on my own, it’s quite a different feeling than anything I’ve had before…

And I just now happened to glance at the calendar on my computer. Is it really October already? It doesn’t feel like it should be October yet. The weather is still quite warm, and it feels like school has just started… Hard to believe it’s already been five weeks since.

New Stuff 2.0

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006 @ 7:13pm

Now that I have a little time to myself, I’ll make an update to the blog about what’s been going on in the past week or so…

These past few weeks have been a little crazy. I finished up work a few weeks ago only to jump right into band camp. There’s a lot of new freshmen in the band, which is a great thing and I’ve had a good time getting to know a lot of them. I do miss a lot of people though who graduated last year and it almost doesn’t seem the same without them. I’ve been playing the timpani, but have been at the tenor sax a time or two. I’m having a blast, and can’t wait for the whole season to get started.

Went to White Water (Six Flags) this past weekend with Dana, Deidre, Beth Ann, Amber, Brett, and some other friends of Deidre’s from Huntsville. It was my first visit to White Water, and I had a great time, even though it was cut a little short by a pretty nasty thunderstorm at the end of the day. But all went well!

Things for the next semester seem to finally be coming together. My schedule is almost finalized, and school is all paid for. The hardest part I guess is just trying to be patient with everything and not rush it all. I know I’m going to need lots of prayer as I take a lot of steps I haven’t before in this next year of school.

It’s amazing though as I think back on the past 3 years of school and how much it has changed and shaped me. The person I was 3 years ago was almost a completely different person. I’m still me, but I’ve broken out of my shell a lot more than before, which I think is a good thing. It’s just so amazing to think that if that much has happened in the past 3 years, what more there is to happen in the 3 years to come. I’m excited!

One time at band camp…

Sunday, August 13th, 2006 @ 9:59pm

Yeah, work has officially ended and school has officially started with the start of band camp. Not much has really gone on in that department yet, but I’m sure if anything happens you’ll be sure to find out.

I got to also tour the new music building on Samford, and it’s just amazing. The new recital hall will be really nice once it’s finished, and I’m sure all of the instrumentalists will enjoy the new practice rooms. The building is still a long way from being finished, but it will look really nice once it’s complete.

I also met with our new band director, and he was really nice. He seems like he really wants to work at what he’s doing. I just only hope he works as hard as Dr. Min did.

So yeah, I guess this next two weeks will kind of be the start of my last year in school. It’s kind of refreshing, yet at the same time a little sad. If you really think about it, I’ve been in school for at least 18 years and it’s almost over. This year is going to be tough, considering I’ll have a lot of things going on, and a lot of things on my mind in general. I have to think about what I’m actually going to do once I get out, and some things to settle this coming semester as well. But I’m trying not to push too hard to do things, and keep myself calm. God will lead me through it I’m sure…

On a little side note as well, pit should be entertaining at the very least. Beth Ann and Justin are on the marimba. Anna is on vibes, and the new freshman we have coming in is either on vibes as well, or maybe xylophone. And me? I’m on timpani, exactly where I wanted to be, so this should be an exciting two weeks.

One More Exam Left!

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006 @ 6:02pm

SadieWoohoo! Only my online exam for Dr. Toone’s class is left (I’m trying to put it off for as long as possible, because it will be hard). I finally got some of my grades in too. I’m not really all that happy about piano, but that’s another story within itself. 3 semesters with a B. Japanese on the other hand, I made a B in as well, so I’m not really complaining considering the hard time I had all semester. Just have to wait on my other computer science grades to come in to help my gpa…

Gee, what's up Ricky?Anyway, my camera came in today! As you can see by a few of the pictures in my post, I’ve been playing with my new “toy” so to speak. As you can see to the left, there’s well… Sadie. She looks so innocent in that picture, unlike Rick! I don’t really know what it is about Rick, but he always has the best facial expressions in photos. I’m not sure what he’s looking at. Who knows? With Rick, it’s always a guess. Someone should come up with captions for these pictures… I had some pictures of Kenny too, but he deleted them before I got a chance to save them. I’ll be using my camera a lot more now, so you can expect to see more pictures in the future.

School’s Out!

Monday, May 15th, 2006 @ 9:12pm

Woohoo! Schools out for summer! Only one more year to go… I still have a few finals to go, it’s not really a big deal. Piano juries are over, and that’s honestly the worst part of finals.

On to other news. Summer is looking good so far. I finally got a job! It pays well, and it’s right in the computer science field too. I also recently got a letter from Samford letting me know they’re giving me a small scholarship! It’s not much but hey, it’s better than anything I’ve had before so I can’t really complain.

Also my parents said they would chip in for a Camera for my birthday. So I just recently ordered a Canon Powershot S2 IS off of Amazon.com. So I’m waiting for that to come in… I’ll be sure to post some pictures once it comes in.

Also if you’re going to be in town this summer, let me know. I’ll probably be bored and looking for things to do (when I’m not working that is…)

Another Year…

Sunday, May 7th, 2006 @ 1:38pm

So, I suppose it’s probably a good time to post how my Birthday went.

But yeah, I had a pretty good Saturday. It started off somewhat uneventful though. Woke up in the morning and tried to go get my brakes fixed, but no one was really around. Jeremy had a wedding to attend, Rick was working, and other people were just as busy as well. So I eventially called Clint to come pick me up and take me to school.

At 1 o’clock went to Brian Dilk’s senior recital. He played a really good recital, although I’m going to be sad to see him go. We’re losing a lot of seniors in the music school this year, and it’s kind of odd too because I could be graduating with them too. Anyway, after the recital was over, I got Rick and Sadie to pick up my car. Thanks guys! After that, I vacuumed my car and practiced for piano juries. Nothing real exciting.

Finally, went to school and picked up Dana for dinner. Jeremy and Kenny met us at Surin. We had a good dinner, although I wish I hadn’t picked a night when half the music school was at a formal. But I had fun with everyone that was there. After dinner, we headed back to the apartment and as seems to be tradition now, lit a cake on fire. Thankfully, no injuries from the lighting of the cake this year. Afterwards, we started to watch a movie but it got sidetracked by Mentos and Pepsi. We had the idea that it would be cool to use glowsticks in a clear drink at night and see what the effect would be. Sadly, it didn’t work out as planned but we got some good pictures! (Which I’ll post later in my comments)

So to everyone who showed up last night, or even just wished me a happy birthday at school… Thanks! I did have enjoyable 22nd, and here’s to many more!
