Fun With Blender

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 @ 12:06am

I’ve always wanted to do 3D modeling for fun, and have worked with 3D Studio Max in the past at a non-complete attempt to model the City Federal building here in Birmingham. Sadly I never finished it.

Country HouseBut I’ve recently picked up modeling again when I stumbled across Blender, a free open-source 3D content creation suite. As seen to the left is a model of my latest work. It’s still a work in progress, but I hope to eventually complete it by the end of the week. I decided to go with a house, because it seemed like a simple enough model to attempt, and so far I’m fairly pleased with how the model has turned out.

Some additional work is needed to the ground, more details and surrounding scenery, and of course textures; which of course I’m trying to figure out as I’ll stumble along. I’ll try and post the finished product once I’m actually done with it!

Weekend Update

Saturday, February 21st, 2009 @ 4:04pm

I found out something this morning that was quite unusual. My allergies have been bothering me the past day or so with a lot of congestion giving me a sore throat. After a Google search for quick remedies, I found out that cayenne peppers are apparently good for sore throats, who would’ve guessed it? Needless to say, I tried adding some cayenne pepper along with honey in my tea, and sure enough 90% of the soreness went away. I would’ve had no idea that a hot pepper would have medical healing applications.

I also went out to buy Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon for my DS since I need some entertainment during my short downtime in this coming week, and was surprised to see an old friend of mine working at GameStop back from my old church; so we were able to catch up for a few minutes.

But keep me in your thoughts this coming week. I’m finally having my hardware in my shoulder removed this week, and I hope I have a somewhat quick recovery. I wanted to go ahead and get it done before all of the summer activities kick in so I’ll have some recoup time.

Random Stuff

Sunday, April 20th, 2008 @ 1:04pm

Not a whole lot going on, therefore that explains the lack of updates. I work, eat, and sleep, so that’s not very exciting, is it? So here are some random ramblings:

Picked up a roof rack for my car (finally) this past weekend. Now I just need a new bike to go along with it.

I think what I really need is a vacation, considering this past year has been a long year for me and I haven’t really had a good chance to sit back and enjoy myself. Sure I was unable to work for a little while last fall, but that wasn’t really relaxing. I think I just need a break (that doesn’t involve bones!)

Started running again, and am trying to keep a schedule now for every other day. I want to get up to a 30 minute run, but taking it slow right now by adding 30 seconds each time. I figure if I add up 1-2 minutes each week I should be up to 30 minutes within a month or two. Working various muscle groups back up to the norm as well, but that’s kind of difficult to do when you don’t have gym equipment, and it’s hard to motivate myself to do that at a gym frequently enough.

Random Fact of the Day

The random bushes in Mario? They were just clouds. Observe:

It's a cloud!

At the Lake

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007 @ 2:21am

If you need to catch me for the next few days, I’ll be spending my spring break with some much needed relaxing with a trip to the lake, and possible trip to the beach as well. There might be some pictures involved, but I won’t make any promises at this point.

I really do have a few more things I need to accomplish in this week of my free time. I have a paper for my senior project that needs to be finished before next Monday, and I need to continue my search for a job…

Just for fun, here are the 10 most random things you may, or may not know about me.

9. I have had a computer at least since I was 6 years old.
8. I am ambidextrous, but I write with my right hand.
7. I am 1/8th Italian.
6. I have visited over half the US (34 states at current count).
5. I’ve run into a tree … twice.
4. I have snowboarded on a Volcano.
3. I have hiked/climbed a mountain (12,600′ East Temple Peak, Wyoming).
2. I lived in New York for almost 2 months.

…and the number one random thing…

I’ve never been to Boston in the fall. (Just kidding!)

1. I have never kissed a girl… or a guy for that matter. But that’s just weird.

No News, Is Good News

Saturday, January 13th, 2007 @ 4:23pm

Well, I guess there’s been a lack of updates for quite a while since there really hasn’t been too much to post about. Things have been fairly uneventful lately. I started Japanese at UAB in early January, and teaching as well, but that pretty much covers the extent of things. I’ll check back here I suppose if anything interesting happens.

In All Randomness…

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006 @ 1:00am

Finally got to see a concert inside our new recital hall with the Samford Orchestra playing tonight. The acoustics of the place were really quite amazing. The softest softs could be heard very clearly, and the orchestra just had an overall great performance. I’ll be looking forward to our Christmas concert there with the Wind Ensemble in December.

I’m ready for fall break however. I don’t really have that many plans, other than my brother is coming into town. So we’ll do something. I’m just looking forward to having a little break even if it’s doing absolutely nothing.

I’ve also been considering what I want to do after I graduate as well… although I haven’t really decided. I’m pretty sure I want to stay here in Birmingham. It would be awesome if I could still live at the apartment that I’m currently living in now… I just need to find a good job to go along with it!

I Totally Hate Making Up Post Titles Because I Am Lacking In Creativity

Thursday, July 13th, 2006 @ 5:45pm

Jeremy has come to town to visit, so that’s what I was keeping up with yesterday. Basically toured Birmingham and showed him what’s changed around here since he’s been gone. We basically caught up on things that have been going on as well. I hate that we’re living so far apart now, and wish I could at least have more chances to go up to the northwest just to hang out. I can’t believe that both Jeremy and Josh have outgrown me! I mean last time I saw Josh, he was about Kaleb’s age and height I think so not having seen him in 2-3 years… yeah.
