Mario Galaxy on Piano

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 @ 5:58pm

Whoever the person is above is fairly talented and plays by ear fairly well. While (in my opinion) some of his arrangements are a little too “notey”, he still has some fantastic renditions of some of the main themes from Super Mario Galaxy. I would recommend checking out some of his other videos if you have played Mario Galaxy, and even if you haven’t, since the music is fantastic.

Seeing this REALLY makes me miss not having a piano. I really want one badly, but with the unfortunate accident has put me in not so great of a financial situation to be able to purchase one. I’m really afraid I will lose a lot of my muscle strength in my fingers from the lack of playing. Maybe after I get my rent settled for the next 6 months I can begin looking again…

The random bushes in Mario? They were just clouds. Observe:

Bionic Arm

Saturday, January 26th, 2008 @ 9:34pm

Ouch! Not to gross any of you out, but I thought the following two pictures were very interesting. It certainly doesn’t feel as bad as it looks, although I must admit it is a little creepy to have that much metal in your shoulder. Airports are certainly going to be a blast…

Ouch 2!It’s a lot of screws though. And I am slightly concerned about possible future injuries even with all of the protective metal existing in the arm. But I have another doctor visit in a couple of weeks so hopefully I can get some of my questions answered now that the initial shock has worn down and I’ve been able to pull some of my thoughts together.

In the meantime as mentioned below I have been trying to working it out, through pain sometimes. But it’s slowly coming along I guess.

Staying inside for as long as I have during these past two months or so have really give me an outdoors itch. Unfortunately the weather itself has not been very outdoor friendly and is somewhat cold compared to previous Alabama winters. As of recent, we’ve been pushing mid 30s to 40s.

Once it starts to get a little bit warmer I can begin my search for a new bike which will hopefully help towards a cure towards my outdoor longing.

Google Limiting Domain Tasting?

Friday, January 25th, 2008 @ 2:54pm

See article.

What is domain tasting? Registrars are allowed to register a domain at no cost for up to 5 days to get a “taste” of a domain to see if it meets their traffic needs.

Why is this a problem? There are two key issues at hand. The first being that a domain can essentially be “held hostage” for that 5 day period to see if the traffic is significant enough to “domain squat“. The other issue as is the case with Network Solutions a registrar has the capability to lock up the domain for 5 days after a search has been made, at no charge, which limits you from purchasing it within that period, if they themselves do not snatch it up.

Hopefully, this step by Google will help prevent the first instance of domain squatters by limiting the amount of income they would be able to make from text ads.

Workout

Friday, January 25th, 2008 @ 11:11am

So I’ve been trying to work out recently in attempt to get full shoulder mobility back. It’s interesting to note at how hard it is to do so when you’ve had your muscles ripped apart in addition to having limited use for the two months.

I generally stay pretty active and moving around, so I don’t usually work out. That, and gyms are usually an expense I really don’t feel like paying. But Samford’s new arena actually has a pretty nice new weight room with all new equipment and stuff. So that with the complications of the accident have pushed me to attempt to begin working out. I think I’ve pulled something… twice, but it’s okay as it usually feels better by the next day. My current goal is the ability to do pull-ups, as my last attempt was a big pain of a failure.

The only thing I lack is motivation. Maybe I need to go buy the soundtrack from Rocky or something…

Snow is a Four Letter Word

Sunday, January 20th, 2008 @ 3:34pm

Snow and Birmingham is a rare combination, but within the past week Alabama has had two snow events, neither of which were significant in Birmingham. Here at the apartment we only received a light dusting which accumulated on cars and roofs, but nothing beyond that.

It is of interest to note, that Birmingham typically receives an inch or so every year, but we’ve had a “snowless” streak the past couple of years. Birmingham is currently in its longest streak without having any measurable snow accumulation. (Note: A measurable amount according to the weather service 0.1 inches) The last measurable snow amount at the B’ham airport was Jan 28, 2000 (2,913 days). I wonder how long it will continue? Here the other 4 streaks following this one:

  • 2/1/1951 to 3/6/1957: 2,225 days
  • 2/13/1905 to 12/18/1909: 1,769 days
  • 2/13/1971 to 12/1/1974: 1,387 days
  • 1/5/1919 to 2/15/1922: 1,137 days

It’s bound to end at some point, but it seems like snow has skipped over Birmingham the past 8 years. Hopefully we’ll see some significant snow either within this year or the next.

1.21 Gigawatts!?!

Dr. Emmett Brown would be proud. Apparently, you can buy Uranium on Amazon.com. The customer reviews themselves are pretty amusing, so be sure to read those as well. Just be sure you dispose of your Uranium properly, because we all know how dangerous mutant guppies can be.
